Basic Information
After Oceanic 815
Season Three
George Minkowski was in charge of all communications between the freighter and the mainland. Every once and a while, he would get a flashing light on his communication system. It was an incoming call from Penelope Widmore, but George was under strict instructions not to answer the calls. He was contacted by Jack Shephard, one of the Oceanic 815 survivors, via Naomi Dorrit's satellite phone. Thanks to the satellite phone, the survivor's position on the island could be located and another helicopter was sent from the freighter to the island.
Season Four
Trying to get a lock on Naomi's satellite phone's signal, Minkowski encountered radio frequency interference which required changes to be made in the settings of the satellite phone. Minkowski asked to speak to Naomi but, as she had a knife thrown into her back by John Locke, Jack told him she had left to get firewood and hung up. Naomi, however, was not dead, and had crawled away into the jungle to escape. She eventually got her satellite phone back from Kate Austen, who maintained that the survivors weren't trying to kill her, and contacted Minkowski. He was told she had been injured when she parachuted from her helicopter, but she then gave him a duress code phrase by asking him to pass on a message to her non-existent sister. A team was dispatched to the satellite phone's coordinates, but they experienced electrical problems while flying over the island and Minkowski lost contact with them. Daniel Faraday was found by the Oceanic survivors and used Naomi's satellite phone to contact Minkowski.
After the freighter had been anchored in one place for a few days, the people onboard became very bored. George and Brandon, another team member, decided to try and reach the island. They didn't use the correct coordinates and started having side-effects - their consciousnesses jumped back and forth between their pasts and the present. The made it back to the freighter, but Brandon died. George was eventually strapped down to a bed in the freghter's sickbay, since everyone on board simply thought he was going crazy. He was treated by Ray, a doctor onboard, who also believed Minkowski was losing his mind.
When Frank Lapidus, the helicopter pilot, arrived back on the freighter with Sayid Jarrah and Desmond Hume, Desmond was going through the same experience as George and was locked up with him in the sickbay. When he realised who Desmond was, he told him about Penelope's calls that he never answered. He told Sayid and Desmond that all the equipment that allowed them to communicate with the mainland had been sabotaged by someone the previous day, but that he could take them to the room. Once their, he passed out again and started bleeding from his nose. Desmond tried to help, but George started having some sort of seizure and died on the spot.

Trivia
- Voice on the Phone: The voice heard over the phone in the season three finale was supposed to be Minkowski but since the character wasn't cast yet it was not Fisher Stevens reading those lines in the original episode. For the previously on clip played at the beginning of the season four premiere the lines were rerecorded by Stevens.
