Basic Information

Around three years before the plane crash, Sarah's vehicle blew a tire on a Los Angeles freeway and jumped the concrete barrier, colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by Adam Rutherford. Jack Shephard was the doctor in the ER who saved her life, although his prognosis for her was grim. He predicted that she would never walk again.

She was engaged to a man called Kevin at the time of her accident, and due to be married in 8 months. She wanted to dance at her wedding, but just before Jack took her into surgery she told him that she accepted that she was never going to feel her legs again. Jack made her a promise that he was going to fix her.

Jack left the surgery convinced that he had failed and she was going to be paralyzed for life. But after a strange conversation with a man called Desmond, he found upon return to her hospital room that Sarah could feel her legs and move her feet.

About a year later, Jack and Sarah's wedding was in Hawaii. She made a speech where she thanked Jack for fixing her. She had made beautiful vows, but Jack couldn't write any of his own, but he told her the she got it wrong. He didn't fix her, she fixed him. They were married.

Unfortunately, Jack's workaholic nature quickly made the relationship fall apart. Sarah began having an affair, and eventually left Jack.

Jack became dangerously obsessed with finding out who Sarah was seeing, even stealing her cell phone. Sarah has been calling Jack's father to try and help Jack, but Jack attacked his father, thinking that he'd been sleeping with Sarah. Christian Shephard called Sarah drunk and asked her to get Jack out. She bailed him out, and told him goodbye. Jack followed her outside and saw the man Sarah was seeing (not his father), and demanded to know his name. Sarah told Jack that it didn't matter who he was, only who Jack wasn't.

At some point in the future, after the Oceanic survivors were rescued, Sarah went to see Jack at the hospital as she was still listed as his emergency contact. Jack had saved a woman in an accident, but Sarah wondered what he was doing out on a bridge at 2am. Jack refused to answer her question, but was adamant that he wasn't drinking again. She was asked for a ride home, but Sarah, who was pregnant with her new husband's baby, didn't think it would be appropriate.
