Sam & Max: Freelance Police was an animated series produced for airing on Fox Kids, a block of Saturday morning cartoons and children's programming on the FOX network. The series centered around Sam and Max, a dog and a lagomorph who fight crime as the Freelance Police. The series was based on the comic of the same name by Steve Purcell, which had previously spawned a videogame by LucasArts.
13 episodes were produced, made up of 11-minute halves except for the first and last episodes which only had one story in it. Also produced were several shorts that aired sporadically during the block.
Three video tape compilations were produced with episodes from the series, but they gradually went out of print. In 2007, cult DVD manufacturer Shout! Factory announced that they were working on a complete series DVD set. It was released on March 11, 2008.
