Basic Information

Thorn is the lead singer and guitarist of the Hex Girls, a rock band based in the group's hometown of Oakhaven, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of local pharmacist Mr. McKnight, and she describes herself and bandmates Dusk and Luna as "eco-goths", a kind of subdivision of the Goth subculture devoted to the preservation of the Earth and its environment (which reflects in at least one of the Hex Girls' songs, titled "Earth, Wind, Fire and Air").

Thorn, who is young and beautiful, has reddish-black hair (possibly a dark auburn), bluish-green eyes and pale skin, and as part of her band's act, she sports a stage outfit of a black and red dress and prosthetic vampire fangs, which were designed for her and the rest of the Hex Girls by Luna's father, a dentist. The body of Thorn's guitar is painted red and black and takes the shape of bat wings. Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are initially scared off by Thorn and her bandmates' appearances (particularly by the vampire fangs) and at first believe them to be witches, but Fred later sets his friends straight about the Hex Girls during the band's rehearsal number.

The Hex Girls, and Thorn in particular, are first suspected by Scooby and the gang to be real witches, and Fred and Daphne seem convinced after they secretly witness Thorn concocting what they think is some kind of potion as part of a ritual. When the gang apologizes to the Hex Girls after learning that their appearance and mannerisms are just part of their stage act, Thorn reveals to the gang that what they saw her make was a mixture of peppermint and cloves, the vapors of which she inhaled to help soothe her vocal chords and keep her singing voice in shape. She also reveals that she is, in fact, 1/16th Wiccan on her mother's side, which later proves beneficial when she is called upon to stop the rampage of the ghost of 17th-century witch Sarah Ravencroft from destroying the world. Thorn is reluctant to do so at first, but when she realizes that only someone of Wiccan blood can cast the spell to return Sarah's ghost to the book of spells in which the ghost had been imprisoned for centuries, she agrees to do it and she succeeds in stopping Sarah and trapping her back in the spellbook, which is subsequently destroyed by a burning tree branch.
