My Blind Date is the twelfth episode of the first season of Scrubs.

Plot Overview

Dr. Cox is on a roll, he has a chance to finish a shift without any deaths, a medical no-hitter. As a result, he's keeping the entire staff hopping trying to keep it going, relying especially on JD. Dr. Kelso has other ideas, grabbing JD to try to use his charm.

Turk and Carla have some relationship problems, leading Carla to believe she's about to be dumped. Turk explains to her how she drives him crazy, but just when she's expecting the end, he instead tells her he loves her.

One of the hospital social workers, Alex Hayden, slipped on a wet floor and Kelso wants JD to help him head off a possible lawsuit. They first meet as Alex is stuck in an MRI, but JD keeps being paged by Dr. Cox working on his no-hitter. Elliot wants a chance to prove herself to Cox, so JD convinces him to use her in his place.

As soon as Kelso learns that Alex has no plans to sue he's gone, leaving JD to keep her company. Finding himself attracted to Alex, but unable to see her face JD asks around the hospital to find out if she's attractive. Things only get worse as the machine jams, leaving Alex frightened and lonely as JD tries his best to stay with her. Eventually the machine is repaired, but JD stops it before he can see her so he can ask her out, realizing that he doesn't care what she looks like.

We don't see Alex's face until the following episode.

The Show

• Music: The song that played in the original airing of this episode is Easy Tonight by Five For Fighting.

Behind the Scenes

• Bitter Rivalry: The Five for Fighting song used in the episode was removed from the episode as seen on the first season DVD. However, it wasn't a question of money, but more of a rivalry between Bill Lawrence and the band. In a third season episode, the band refused to allow use for another of their songs. So, in retaliation, Lawrence decided that he'd rather not support them by licensing their song for the DVD.
