TNBC (or Teen NBC) is an American programming block that aired on NBC from 1992 to 2002. The block featured live-action shows aimed at teenagers and young adults. Majority of the blocks shows were produced by the network's in-house production units NBC Productions, NBC Studios, and NBC Enterprises.

History

The TNBC idea came from the popularity of Saved by the Bell, which premiered on the network in 1989 (even though it originated on Disney Channel as Good Morning, Miss Bliss in 1988). The success of the show ultimately persuaded NBC to cancel all of their animated shows on September 12, 1992, and replace them with live-action teen sitcoms, which made NBC the first network to drop all children's programming. The block's centerpiece at the time was Saved by the Bell, which was in its fourth and final season.

The block premiered a month after NBC introduced a Saturday edition of Today, which was on August 1, 1992. The following year, the TNBC name was officially adopted. As a result, California Dreams, which originally centered on a family, was retooled around a group of teenage friends, thus setting the template for future shows on the block to follow similar formats.

Most of the scripted programs on the block were sitcoms executive produced by Peter Engel, the showrunner of Saved by the Bell. They included California Dreams, City Guys, Hang Time, One World, and Saved by the Bell: The New Class.
