Plot Overview

Peter checks out several toys while shopping at a toy store when he spots a young girl named Tina climbing up a toy shelf to reach a doll she wants to look at. Realizing that the shelf is becoming unsteady and about to fall over due to it not being properly secured to the wall, Peter rushes to pull Tina out of the way to keep her from getting crushed by the falling shelf and he is hailed as a hero for his action. Soon after, he makes it into the newspaper when a front-page article is published about his act of heroism, which quickly ends up going to his head and inflates his ego as he starts bragging about the event, with some exaggeration of the details, to his friends around the neighborhood.

Peter's bragging about his act soon annoys his siblings and alienates his friends, while Mike and Carol become concerned about how the publicity around the newspaper story is affecting him, especially after the newspaper gives him an Outstanding Citizen of the Month award with a $50 cheque and he accepts a generous offer from Tina's mother to reward him for saving her daughter's life. After planning a congratulatory party for himself with the award money and inviting his friends and classmates to come, no one shows up for the party, causing Peter to learn lessons in humility and heroism. Not wanting all the party food to go to waste or Peter to feel down about his planned party ending up a bust, the Bradys and Alice, with Tina and her mother invited to join them, take over throwing the party for him.
