Plot Overview

Months have passed with no sign of the Whisperers, but the discovery of a skin mask puts everyone on high alert.

Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Months have passed since the snow storm and it's presumed Alpha and the Whisperers have moved out. The communities nevertheless adhere to the boundary established until a satellite crashes on the other side and they have to cross to put it out before it spreads. After it's extinguished, Carol and Daryl overlook the quarry where the Whisperers kept their herd. While they're all gone, Alpha appears and she and Carol exchange glares.
  • There's been no communication from Maggie in some time.

Characters

  • Carol has been out to sea. Daryl calls her his best friend and while she jokes about the two leaving together to New Mexico, he wants her to stay instead of returning to sea. He also thinks she's been looking for Alpha, but Carol denies it.
  • Rosita has had her baby.
  • Saddiq appears to be suffering from PTSD following his encounter with the Whisperers.
  • Kelly is beginning to lose her hearing.
  • Negan has been allowed to be outside, albeit under supervision.
  • Luke is seen exchanging flirtation with a woman named Jules.

Referbacks

  • Judith tells RJ the story of Rick at the bridge from "What Comes After", but she doesn't name him or allude to he being their father, simply referring to him as the "brave man".

Trivia

The Show

  • The title sequence has undergone some changes from the previous season:
    • The writing on the door to Alexandria of "FINAL WARNING" now reads "SILENCE THE WHISPERS".
    • The graveyard now features has a sword stabbed into the ground next to the katana.
    • A sequence has been added of the bridge with Rick aiming at the walkers that then changes to to the aftermath of it being blown in half.
    • The walker and whisperers are now on the opposite side of the row of spikes (still adorned with the heads) with more walkers in the background.
  • The names of Alanna Masterson and Katelyn Nacon have been removed with Ryan Hurst now upgraded to the main cast.
  • Similar to "The Lost and the Plunderers", this episode's acts are broken up by titles: Training Day, Skin, Bird Wisdom, Sea Dogs, New Mexico, Lines We Cross, and Embers.

Memorable Moments
