Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • It's confirmed that Carol is the one who broke Negan out of jail.
  • Negan finds Lydia has escaped, but her whereabouts are unknown.
  • Eugene tells the others about Stephanie. Yumiko and Ezekiel go with him to meet her and after encountering a couple of walkers in a cage on the way, they find an abandoned city with walkers dressed and bound to look alive. There they find a colourfully dressed woman with a gun who greets them enthusiastically.

Characters

  • After placing Alpha's head on a pike, Carol goes to be on her own again, all being haunted by Alpha who seems to play on insecurity of losing people and suggests that she wants to die. She becomes trapped as a walker approaches, but rejects death by freeing herself and goes to Alexandria where Daryl has returned.
  • Daryl finds Negan who tries to explain how he was working to kill Alpha as part of a deal with Carol to show everyone he's changed. Daryl is initially distrustful until Whisperers find them Negan takes advantage of them recognising him as the new Alpha and kills them, saving Daryl. However, Negan confesses that Daryl's claim that he liked being with the Whisperers is true because he felt like he mattered.
  • Beta finds Alpha's head, but rejects being the new Alpha. He then takes the head to a hotel where someone had been holed up and there is evidence that confirms he was a famous singer/musician before the apocalypse by the stage name of Half Moon. After struggling with this confrontation with his past, he thanks Alpha before putting her down and sewing part of her face to replace the portion that was earlier torn off.
  • Ezekiel shows signs of getting sicker to the point where a coughing fit leaves him vulnerable to a walker.

Referbacks

  • The title of the episode, as Alpha recites to Carol, is what Carol told Lizzie before shooting her in "The Grove". Alpha even taunts her with Lizzy's last words: "Please don't be mad at me. I'm sorry."

Trivia

The Show

  • Danai Gurira's name has been removed from the title sequence as of this episode.

Quotes

  • Jerry: You're really going.
Ezekiel: Yeah.
Jerry: I don't think that's a good idea.
Ezekiel: Because I'm sick?
Jerry: Because I'm gonna miss you.
  • Eugene: Do you think they'll have candy? The new community, I mean.
Yumiko: What on earth made you think of that?
Eugene: I was remembering my mother who grew up near train tracks like this. My mother was a pistol, as they say, so I was trying to remember something kind about her and I settled on these chocolate bunnies she used to buy at Easter time. I was macking on them, they were delicious, though eating the heads did upset me as a child. Still, I came to associate them with... family.
Yumiko: Eugene, please tell me we aren't really on a journey to find chocolate bunnies.
Eugene: Well, of course not. We're on a journey for the future hope of mankind. But candy would be nice.
  • Daryl: You should probably shoot me.
Negan: Don't threaten me with a good time.
