Plot Overview
Opening Monologue
Thanksgiving is a holiday that brought together two different cultures. The pilgrims, came here with the best intentions; they decided to flee an oppressive people and come to a new land where they thrived... and became an oppressive people. Get certain people on the same continent, there's gonna be a problem: pilgrims and Indians, protestants and catholics, my family, anybody else's family.
Erin wants the perfect Thanksgiving, but the only tools I have to make that happen are her family and my family. So, I'll bring them together in love and peace if I have to squeeze their codependent necks until their pores ooze gin.
The Show
The first Thanksgiving where Erin's family and Titus' family is a resounding disaster that has adjourned to the hospital. Titus has a dislocated shoulder, but to make things worse, Erin has decided that their families are so dysfunctional that they can't get married. But, she's clearly in shock so Titus spends much of the rest of the evening trying to calm her down.
When she regains some clarity, she starts blaming everyone else for screwing up her perfect Thanksgiving first Titus for inviting Tommy, and then Tommy for instigating the food fight by hitting her brother in the head with a loaf of bread and ruining their moment of announcing their engagement. Nurse Kathy gets around to giving her a sedative to calm her down, as well as fixing Titus' shoulder. Dave suggests that he give Erin the engagement ring now, but he's sure that she's not ready for it.
Instead of giving Erin her ring, he decides to try and reconcile her perfect moment by having the rest of Thanksgiving dinner in the hospital. Titus tries to give her the ring then, but the box that the ring is supposed to be in is empty. When Michael is dragged into the hospital by the cops, Titus takes a swing at him because he stole the ring. Ken gets it back by threatening Michael with a lighter, but Erin still won't accept his marriage proposal because of their families. She only accepts the proposal after Titus explains to her that he's the only one who can survive her terrible family because he's survived his own terrible family.
