Behind the Scenes
- Censorship: This episode was held until the end of the season and very nearly not aired due to its dark content. Originally, it was meant to air sometime between "Amy's Birthday," when Amy moves in with Titus and Erin, and "Errrr," when they discover that Amy is a lesbian. Based on the interactions between Titus and the principal, it was likely to air immediately after "Grandma Titus." Reportedly, the only reason why the episode was aired at all was because Sandy Grushow, then president of Fox Entertainment, lobbied for its broadcast.
Several episodes make reference to the events of "The Protector," including a direct reference to Amy's molestation in "The Session." Some have argued that had the episode aired in sequence, it would have given more dimension to Amy's character and her antisocial behavior.
