Plot Overview

Syaoran is surrounded by the bewitched townspeople. The Ryoshi tells him that any pain he causes them will be felt by Sakura and Chun'yan, still trapped in the bubble. Sakura calls out to Syaoran to save them. Syaoran jumps over the people, but they pin him down and beat him.

Fai and Kurogane rush on ahead.

Sakura and Chun'yan call out to Syaoran, and Syaoran remembers when he and Sakura were children, she asked if she could call him "Syaoran", with no honorific. Sakura calls out to Syaoran again, using his name - without the honorific. Syaoran realizes the girls are fake, and they dissolve. He attacks the Ryoshi full-force, but is thrown back by magic. The townspeople advance on him, and they are about to beat him again, when the real Chun'yan arrives. She uses her mirror, breaking the Ryoshi's spell on all of them. It looks like she did the same to Sorata when he arrived last episode on the hill to kidnap her and Sakura.

The Ryoshi's son wakes up, but Kishi is right there, waiting for him...

Syaoran faces down the Ryoshi, and demands he returns the feather. The Ryoshi says that if he returns the feather, he could never bring Chun'yan's mother back. Chun'yan points out that her mother is dead and even her spirit said she could never come back, no matter what. Chun'yan gets angry and starts to cry. Syaoran asks her if she wants revenge. Chun'yan remembers what her mother said, and says she wouldn't waste a punch on him.

Syaoran steps forward to get the feather, but Kishi surrounds and grabs the Ryoshi. She says that she will take him back to her country, presumably to torture him. She tells Syaoran he will be welcomed in her country. She then tells Chun'yan that her mother was very skilled and that she must become as strong as her mother. Kishi vanishes with the Ryoshi in her clutches.

The feather is released from its orb, and all of the transformed townspeople are returned to normal. Syaoran gives Sakura her feather. She remembers a birthday meal, with her brother and Yukito. There is also an empty chair, and Sakura talks to someone who isn't there. Outside of the memory, she falls into Syaoran's waiting arms.

Fei Wang Reed is watching from his own dimension, and mentions a hidden power beneath the ruins of Clow. The girl with him walks up to the tank with the person in it, and says their debut is yet to come.

Sorata and the townspeople celebrate, while Chun'yan thanks Syaoran, Kurogane, and the others. The Miteshu finally arrive, and Mokona goes crazy about the Mito Kōmon TV show again, ultimately disappointed when their seal is different. The Miteshu explain that the barrier the Ryoshi put around the town prevented anyone with magic from entering, which kept them out. One of them apologizes to her for being so late. Then they say that a new lord must be chosen. Chun'yan declares they don't need one, they can take care of themselves.

The leader of the Miteshu asks Syaoran and the others why they risked their lives for the town. They don't really give an answer, but tell him it's all in his hands now.

Chun'yan, Sorata, and Arashi watch the group leave with Mokona. Chun'yan is sure she'll see them again.

Notes

Locations

  • Koryo (town of Ryonfi)

Character History

  • Because of the bumper, we now know the name of the mysterious man watching Syaoran and the others: Fei Wang Reed. He wants some sort of power buried beneath the Clow ruins. There is also a black-haired girl with him, and someone in a tank.

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • The Ryoshi is defeated, and Kishi takes him to her home world for "special treatment".
  • The Miteshu finally arrive in town.
  • The townspeople decide to rule themselves.

Characters

  • Sakura gets her third feather back. She is livelier as a result.
  • Sakura's Memory: One of her birthday parties. There is an empty chair there, and she keeps talking to someone who isn't there.

Referbacks

  • 1x08: Repeat of the flashback of Sakura asking Syaoran if she could just call him "Syaoran", minus any honorific. Here, this memory saves Syaoran's life.
  • Fei Wang Reed remembers Syaoran/Sakura, Fai, and Kurogane all leaving their native worlds in 1x01.
  • Chun'yan is surprised that the Miteshu turn out to be children, which contradicts her earlier belief that Syaoran might be a Miteshu in 1x07. Of course, she concluded then that he was too young anyway.

Trivia

Bumper

  • Fei Wang Reed

Nicknames

  • Fai calls Kurogane "Kuro-pon".
  • Mokona calls Kurogane "Kuro-pin".

Allusions and References

CLAMP References

  • CLAMP School Detectives: Nokoru Imonoyama, Suoh Takamura, and Akira Ijyuin are the Miteshu that Chun'yan was waiting for. They are all children, much to Chun'yan's surprise. Nokoru is also just as kindly as he is in CLAMP School Detectives.

Real World References

  • When addressing someone by name in Japanese, it is customary to add an honorific to the end of that person's name, such as "-san" or "-sama". To omit the honorific is considered rude. If two people are very close to each other, they may give each other permission to omit the honorific when addressing each other, conveying a sense of emotional intimacy. Sakura and Syaoran did not use the honorifics when they lived in Clow, since they had been friends for so long. But now that Sakura has lost her memory, the intimacy between them does not exist, so she would not omit the honorific when calling out to him for help.
  • Mokona mentions Mito Kōmon again when the Miteshu arrive in town. However, when it starts asking them which character is which, it gets all of the names wrong. Their seal is also different from the one used on the show (a hollyhock).
