WHDH is an independent in Boston, Massachusetts. The station broadcasts on digital channel 42 displayed to tuners on virtual channel 7 and is owned by Sunbeam Television. Its sister station is The CW affiliate WLVI channel 56.

WHDH first opened in 1948 as WNAC-TV as a CBS affiliate with secondary ABC and DuMont affiliations. In 1956, the station dropped DuMont, also dropped ABC in 1957, then in 1961, the station switched to ABC full-time and then back to CBS in 1972. In 1982, the station changed its call letters to WNEV-TV and then to the current WHDH in 1990 (the call previously applied on channel 5, which is now ABC affiliate WCVB). In 1995, the station swapped networks with WBZ-TV channel 4 with that station becoming CBS and WHDH joining NBC.

NBC chose not to renew its affiliation with WHDH after 2016. In November 2016, NBC announced that low-powered WBTS-LD/channel 8 would be the home of what is billed as "NBC Boston" on January 1, 2017. WBTS and NBC will rely on cable and satellite coverage (97% of the greater Boston area) for exposure.
