Biography

David Winters, born April 5, 1939, in London, moved to the United States when he was 13.

Before he formed Winters-Rosens with Burt Rosen, Winters starred on Broadway; West Side Story, and Gypsy are two of the better known productions he was in. In the 60s Winters directed episodes of The Monkees, was a dancer, as well as the choreograoher on both Shindig! and Hullabaloo, the two earliest Rock and Roll national shows. Nancy Sinatra wanted him to choreograph her special Movin' with Nancy, and he did, but he would ultimately be featured as one of the many guest stars. Winters earned his first Emmy nomination in a special category, because the academy had dropped choreography as a category. It was subsequently reinstated after 1967, and Winters was again nominated for The Ann-Margaret Special. After the success of the Nancy Sinatra special, Winters partnered with Burt Rosen to form Winters-Rosen (WR). Episodic television were produced, but WR was known for its specials.

Notoriety

Winters had a two year affair with Linda Lovelace, and produced the film Linda Lovelace for President. He was interviewed and appears in the documentary Inside Deep Throat.

Winters wrote songs in the 60s with a young guy named Jerry Landis. It was not until later during a taping of Hullabaloo with Simon & Garfunkle as musical guests, that he realized Jerry Landis was also Paul Simon.
