Allusions and References

  • Hannibal quotes Faust, a tragic play written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe when he says "Two souls, alas, are dwelling in my breast, and one is striving to forsake its brother."
  • When Hannibal asks Will how he thinks Dolarhyde has contacted him, he sarcastically suggests personal ads and toilet paper. These means are exactly how the two communicated to each other in the novel.

Memorable Moments

  • His failure to kill Will's family enrages the Great Red Dragon and he attacks Dolarhyde, which results in brutally beating himself up.

Quotes

  • Hannibal: (to Dolarhyde) Save yourself. Kill them all.
  • Jack: You have hubbed Hell, Dr Lecter.
Hannibal: I often do.
  • Will: I'm just about worn out with you crazy sons of bitches.
Hannibal: The essence of the worst in the human spirit is not found in the crazy sons of bitches. Ugliness is found in the faces of the crowd.
