Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • At the end of the teaser, the image of Dolarhyde becoming the Great Red Dragon is based on Blake's The Number of the Beast is 666.
  • When Hannibal "witnesses" Dolarhyde's transformation at the end of the teaser, he asks, "Did he who made the Lamb, make thee?" This is a quote from the poem "The Tyger" by William Blake.
  • Dolarhyde addresses himself as an "avid fan" to Hannibal. "Avid Fan" is how Dolarhyde signed his correspondence to Hannibal in the Red Dragon novel.
  • The scene of Hannibal getting Will's address is based on a scene from the novel Red Dragon, but it does not mention Hannibal using the foil from the gum wrapper to manipulate the phone, nor is Hannibal claiming to a Bob Greer. These elements are lifted from the first film adaptation Manhunter.

Memorable Moments

  • The flashback to Bedelia shoving her hand into her patient's mouth as he begins to swallow his tongue before proceeding to shove her whole arm down his throat as a mercy killing.

Goofs

  • The phone conversation between Hannibal and Dolarhyde up to where the last episode left off differs significantly from the exchange in the previous episode.

Quotes

  • Will: Poor Du Maurier. Swallowed whole, suffering inside Hannibal Lecter's bowels for what must have felt like an eternity. You didn't lose yourself, Bedelia. You just crawled so far up his ass, you couldn't be bothered.
