KSWB-TV is the FOX affiliate for San Diego, California, a full service television station broadcasting over the air on digital channel 26, displayed on tuners as virtual 69. It appears on San Diego's cable systems on channel 5, thus the "Fox 5" branding. The only notation of 69 used on the air is at the start of their 10 PM news, when the "69" in their on-screen station bug dissolves into a "5." Its subcarriers carry shows from Antenna TV and This TV.

Originally pencilled in to start in 1983 as KSDT, channel 69 started in 1984 as independent KTTY. It became an affiliate of The WB network in 1995 and was renamed KSWB by Tribune, which took ownership at that time. In 2006, KSWB became a CW affiliate after the WB and UPN shut down their operations and merged. KSWB aired a 10PM newscast produced and staffed by NBC affiliate KNSD, channel 39. When KSWB switched to Fox, their news became in-house produced.

On August 1, 2008, KSWB-TV switched to the FOX network, obtaining it from XETV/channel 6.

While the original shutoff date for analog TV was extended to June 12, 2009, KSWB chose to shut theirs off on the original date of February 17, 2009. KFMB/channel 8 (CBS), and KGTV/channel 10 (ABC) shut theirs off as well.

Some tuners are acquiring KSWB's virtual channel as 5 (its cable position), which would create a possible conflict with KTLA in Los Angeles (digital 31, virtual 5) in the north fringes of the San Diego market where it joins with the Los Angeles market. In early winter 2019, KSWB moved their digital transmissions from RF channel 19 to channel 26, the result of the incentive auction.

There had been word that Fox and Ion are talking about a deal which would counter the announced merger of Tribune and Sinclair. It was speculated that Fox wanted to remove its affiliation from Sinclair stations, which would precipitate removing them from Tribune stations had the deal gone through. Independent KUSI/channel 51 would have been the most likely candidate to acquire Fox affiliation. The most current news is that Fox will buy KSWB but the merger cancellation has put the purchase in question. Nexstar now owns KSWB, having bought it and the rest of Tribune's portfolio of TV stations (divesting 13 of them to Scripps and Tegna to meet federal regulations).

Nexstar will have a duopoly in San Diego as they are acquiring KUSI outright.
