Plot Overview

Notes

Music

  • Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas: J.D. briefly sings "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas in the elevator during the montage of Kim being retconned into previous episodes from the series. The song was Douglas' biggest hit, released in 1974 after he saw a kung-fu film and watched a jazz concert while high on painkillers.
  • Easier to Lie by Aqualung: The song that plays at the end of the episode when J.D. confronts Kim about how careful she is with everyone in the hospital is "Easier to Lie" by Aqualung. The song appears on his 2005 album Strange and Beautiful.

Trivia

The Show

  • First Appearance: Despite being retconned into earlier scenes from the series, this is, in fact, Elizabeth Banks]]' first appearance as Dr. Kim Briggs.
  • Retroactive Continuity: Kim has been digitally added to several scene from previous episodes in the series. The instances which Turk notes were from J.D.'s first day (My First Day), Ben's funeral (My Screw Up) and when he was singing in the elevator (His Story). Incidentally, she takes the seat at Ben's funeral which would eventually be taken by Carla and the outline of J.D.'s hand can be seen behind her in the elevator.
  • In-Joke: The opening credits have a slightly different version of "Superman" playing in the background that is more reminiscent of the "long credits" from season 2 before Kim comes in and flips the X-Ray, saying that it's backwards and that's "been bugging [her] for years." This is a complaint that has been voiced by fans since the series' beginning.

Behind the Scenes

Allusions and References

  • Good Night and Good Luck: The Janitor tags on "And Good Luck" to the end of Dr. Kelso's announcement over the PA system. "Good Night and Good Luck" is the way that pioneer television journalist Edward R. Murrow signed off his news broadcasts on CBS. The phrase later became the title of a Murrow biopic starring David Strathairn and George Clooney which was nominated for six Academy Awards.
