Season Five of Scrubs premiered on January 3, 2006. After being pushed out of its normal time-slot in the Fall season by My Name Is Earl, Scrubs was put on the backburner until space could be found. As a result, a lot of the episodes were aired two at a time to catch up.

This season reconciled the departure of Elliott from Sacred Heart and also introduced new secondary characters like Dr. Cox's ultra-religious sister (played by Cheryl Hines) and a new love interest for J.D. (played by Mandy Moore).
