Happenings
- When Pamela orders the people at the gates of the estates to be shot, the Coalition stops to let them in. These leads to a tense situation until Vickers follows with Mercer's lead and arrests Pamela where she is last seen in prison.
- The walkers are purged by being led into the Estates and using fuel to ignite an explosion, destroying it entirely.
- A year later, Hilltop, Alexandria, and the Commonwealth have been rebuilt and unified and have prospered.
Characters
- While the hospital is empty and lacking proper medical necessities, Judith is sneaked into the Estates where Yumiko's brother gives her proper treatment.
- Jules is separated from Luke and is killed. Luke is bitten on the leg, leading the others to amputate, but without proper medical attention, he bleeds out and dies.
- Rosita successfully rescues her daughter, but, unbeknown to the others, is bitten. Eugene finds out first before she tells the others and is allowed to die in peace with he being given the honour to prevent her reanimation.
- Elijah reunites with Lydia and are shown to be still together a year later.
- Yumiko and Magna reconcile.
- Negan confesses to Maggie that when he thought Annie was going to be killed, he understood how she felt. Maggie knows he's trying and has no problem with he and Annie living with them, hoping that one day she can stop hating him, but the painful memories are too much to forgive him. It's unknown what happens to Negan a year later, but he has Judith's compass returned to her.
- A year later, Ezekiel is Governor with Mercer serving as his Lieutenant Governor. Carol has taken on the job Hornsby had.
- Eugene and Max are not only still together a year later, but have a daughter named Rosie.
- Daryl talks with Maggie about finding others. Daryl then heads out on his motorcycle to begin, but not before letting a tearful Carol know that she's his best friend and loves her.
- Michonne is shown to still be alive and still searching for Rick, although she is no longer with the group she was last seen with. She has gone too far out for radio and is writing in a diary.
- A flashback shows Rick barefoot and wearing a jacket with the CRM logo. He's writing a letter in a bottle he tosses into the water before a helicopter approaches. He puts stuff into a bag (including an iPhone with an etching of Michonne and Judith) and throws it onto a ship. They refer to him as "Consignee Grimes" and order him to surrender.
Referbacks
- Daryl calls Judith "Lil' Ass-Kicker", the name he suggested just after she was born (Say the Word)

Memorable Moments
Quotes
- Mercer: This isn't your fight. These aren't your people.
- Ezekiel: Yes, they are. And so are you. You may not think this place is worth saving, and I get that, given how they treated us. But it's worth it to me. The people are worth it and I'm not gonna allow them to fall without a fight. Not today. I'm with you. Who else?
- Aaron: Yeah. We can do more than just save ourselves. We need to.
- Daryl: What the hell you doing? We all deserve better than this. You built this place to be like the old world. That was the fuckin' problem.
- Pamela: If I open the gates, the dead will get in, not just the living.
- Daryl: If you don't, you're gonna lose everything anyway. We got one enemy. We ain't the walkin' dead.
- Pamela: It's not easy having so many lives in your hands. There are decisions you'll have to make that are ugly. How do you pick who does the jobs no one wants? Who gets the nicer house?
- Carol: We've already had to make an ugly decision. We kept you alive. After everything you've done. 'Cause we've all done things. We'll figure it out. I'll make sure of it. (beat) And at least we don't have to worry about who gets your house.
- Maggie: (to Negan) I've been thinking about what you said. I want to thank you. I can stop wondering if you'll ever say those words. And if I can ever forgive you. 'Cause I know now... I... I can't. Glenn was beautiful. I'll never love anyone like that again. I remember his smile. His goodness. And the way he made me feel. But when I look at you... all I see is that bat coming down on his head... blood running down his face. I hear him... I hear him calling for me. And I hear you mocking him while he's dying. So I... I can't forgive you. Even though I'm so grateful that you saved my son. Even though I know that you're trying. I'm trying, too. Because I don't want to hate you any more. I don't want to hurt like that. And I don't want my son to see that anybody has that kind of hold over me. If you and Annie want to stay, you have earned your place. But if I can't look at you some days, if I can't work with you, and if I can't move on, that's why. Because all I have are my memories. And I don't want to remember Glenn like that.
- Daryl: While I'm out there, if I hear anything, see anything, I'll find them both, I'll bring them home. All right?
- Judith: Uncle Daryl?
- Daryl: Yeah?
- Judith: You deserve a happy ending, too.
- Rick: I think of the dead all the time. And about the living, who I lost.
- Michonne: I tried to get to you and your brother again and again. It's too far for the radio now. I know that. But I still got you. And you got me. We're connected. We're still connected...
- Rick: I think about them all, every day.
- Michonne: ...to everybody we ever loved.
- Rick: Their faces, what I learned from them, how they made me who I am, so much more than all this made me who I am.
- Michonne: We'll always be together, even when we're apart. We, together, are the strongest thing. We're love, and love is endless. So we, those gone...
- Rick: All of our lives...
- Michonne: ...those away...
- Rick: ...they come in one life...
- Michonne: ...we are endless.
- Rick: ...we're together, pieces of a whole that just keep going for what we gave each other. One unstoppable life. You showed me that. You gave me that.
- Michonne: I know you're back there. I know your brother is back there, just as sure as I know he's out there, somewhere. Not just as a part of us. He's alive out there. I will find him. Because I know he's trying to find us. Remember what I said. It's what he said. Hold it to your heart. It's true. Forever.
- Maggie: We are the ones who live.
- Gabriel: We're the ones who live.
- Aaron: We're the ones who live.
- Morgan: We're the ones who live.
- Eugene: We are the ones who live.
- Ezekiel: We're the ones who live.
- Negan: We're the ones who live.
- Carol: We're the ones who live.
- Daryl: We are the ones who live.
- Various voices: (repeating over one another) We are the ones who live.
- Michonne: We are the ones who live.
- Rick: We're the ones who live.
- Judith: We get to start over. We're the ones who live.
