Plot Overview

Masayoshi explains that Shogo and his team aren't really bad guys. Shogo attacks Syaoran once, doing no damage. Shogo tells Syaoran he likes him, then leaves. Syaoran runs to Sakura and restores the feather to her. Masayoshi's Kudan is there, retreating back into Masayoshi. Sorata and Arashi appear, and take the group back to their boarding house. It turns out that Arashi used to be a priestess and sensed their arrival; they will look after the group because they are indebted to Yūko. Mokona lets them know that it can sense Sakura's feathers, and that it sensed a different feather while Shogo was fighting with Syaoran. Kurogane lets Syaoran know he is not interested in helping them at all. Fai and Mokona express the opposite sentiment.

That night, Syaoran remembers watching Sakura leave the ruins, while Kurogane remembers the encounter with Tomoyo that sent him on this journey. We find out that she put a curse on him so that whenever he kills someone his strength will weaken; and we see that he too met a Kudan while drifting in the void.

The next morning, Sorata gives them new clothes and money to go wandering about the town. While they are out, Kurogane sees this world's version of Tomoyo and chases after her. Mokona flies away too, but it's not sensing Kurogane or a feather - Mokona is hungry! They enter a restaurant, only to be served by this universe's versions of Touya and Yukito.

Kurogane loses sight of Tomoyo, but instead is confronted by one of the gangs from earlier. The leader says he'd like to use Kurogane as bait to draw Syaoran out, then reveals his Kudan, which resembles a horseshoe crab. It attacks Kurogane, who dodges all of its thrusts.

He then stands up, and a Kudan emerges from him - a giant blue dragon. It turns itself into a sword. Kurogane takes the sword and unleashes an attack on the other Kudan, slicing through it and hurting the gang leader. When the leader asks Kurogane to join his gang, Kurogane proudly declares his allegiance to Tomoyo.

Back at the boarding house, Kurogane won't tell anyone what happened. Later, he tells Syaoran to go to sleep.

While everyone is asleep, Sakura wakes up.

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Kurogane gets a Kudan of his own. It appears as a giant blue dragon, and transforms itself into a sword.

Characters

  • Sakura has her first feather restored.
  • This is the first time Syaoran and Kurogane encounter alternate versions of people they know from their own worlds.

Referbacks

  • Syaoran remembers Sakura leaving the hill where they stood back in 1x01.
  • Kurogane remembers the confrontation with Tomoyo back in 1x01. This time we see more of the conversation, where it is revealed Kurogane wished to become stronger and didn't care how much damage he did along the way. This is the real reason she sent him to Yūko. The events also transpire a bit differently - she places a curse on him just seconds before he is sucked away to another dimension. In the original episode, his forehead already bore the mark of the curse when we first see him in the throne room, and his last words before disappearing are different.
  • When he meets the alternate Touya and Yukito, Syaoran remembers his last conversation with King Touya.

Nicknames

  • Fai calls Kurogane "Kuro-tan" and "Kuro-rin" in this episode.

CLAMP References

  • X: Sorata and Arashi appear. They have essentially the same personalities, though Arashi seems a bit gentler. Arashi used to be a priestess, but now her and Sorata are happily married.
  • Cardcaptor Sakura: Touya and Yukito are working in an okonomiyaki (Japanese pizza) joint. This is similar to one of the recurring jokes on Cardcaptor Sakura, where Sakura would often encounter her brother and his best friend working a different part time job wherever she went.

Memorable Moments

  • We see Mokona's scary face for the first time.
