WFOX-TV is the call sign for the FOX affiliate in Jacksonville, Florida. It broadcasts on digital channel 14, displayed as virtual 30. It has three subcarriers--14.2 airs MeTV programs in the daytime, late night and on weekends and MyNetworkTV in prime time (Monday to Friday), 14.3 airs shows from the service Heroes & Icons, and 14.4 airs Spanish-language network Telemundo. Its sister station is CBS affiliate WJAX-TV/channel 19 digital, 47 virtual.
WFOX opened in 1981 as WAWS as a standard independent station. It became a FOX affiliate upon the network's formation in 1986. In 2002, WJXT/channel 4 announced it was jumping ship from CBS and reverting to independent status, leaving CBS to eventually move to then-UPN affiliate WTEV. UPN would move to WAWS under secondary affiliation and its programs would air from 11 PM to 1 AM the nights UPN programmed. In 2006, UPN and the WB shut down and merged into the CW, while Fox launched MyNetworkTV. The CW would go to WJWB/channel 17 (now WCWJ), while MyNetworkTV replaced UPN on WAWS. In 2007, MyNetworkTV moved to WAWS's digital subcarrier. The subcarrier had previously carried the now-defunct Variety Television Network. In 2014, the station changed its call letters to the current WFOX-TV.
