WNUV is a CW affiliate in Baltimore, Maryland. The station broadcasts on digital channel 25.3 displayed to tuners on virtual channel 54 and is owned by Cunningham Broacasting and managed by Sinclair Broadcast Group under a local marketing agreement. Its sister stations are FOX affiliate WBFF and MyNetworkTV affiliate WUTB channel 45.2 (a subchannel of WBFF).
WNUV first began in 1982 as an Independent station. In 1993, the station became a PTEN affiliate, then also became a UPN affiliate in 1995 and was the original UPN affiliate for Baltimore before losing the network to WUTB in 1998 and became a WB affiliate. In 2006, UPN and The WB shut down and merged into The CW and WNUV eventually became an affiliate of The CW.
WNUV is the "lighthouse station" for the NextGen ATSC standard. They will host simulcasts of four other Baltimore stations in ATSC 3.0. The NextGen roster in Baltimore is as follows:
Virtual | ATSC 3.0 Physical | Name | Programming |
---|---|---|---|
2.1 | 25.5004 | WMAR | ABC |
11.1 | 25.5003 | WBAL | NBC |
22.1 | 25.5006 | WMPT | PBS |
45.1 | 25.5002 | WBFF | Fox |
54.1 | 25.5007 | WNUV | CW |
To effect maintaining service for ATSC 1.0 receivers, WNUV has moved the RF transmissions of their subcarriers--Antenna TV, Comet and Stadium--to the subcarrier tiers of WMAR and WBAL while they retain 54.x as their virtuals.
