Plot Overview
The Blackwood Project are sent to a facility that has unearthed an alien craft, the likes of which they have never seen. Before they can investigate, they find themselves following orders from a shadow government branch known as Project 9, which is deemed to deal with alien material for nefarious purposes. The leader's experiments with the sole alien in the craft threaten their safety when it revives and escapes.
Notes
"After we evacuate, this facility will be like Chernobyl."
Base Three
- Project 9
- The craft has a triangular window and a triangular keypad.
- When the alien "hacks" into the computers, the "green floating weirdness" is in a triangular shape.
The Number 23
- The room the team are quartered in is B-23.
Locations
- Spirit Lake, Wisconsin (U.S.A.F. geological site)
Timeline
- Ironhorse mentions they've been fighting the aliens for "over a year now."
- On Alexander's computer can be seen "Feb" and he later states it as the 17th.
Arc Advancement
Happenings
- An alien pod is discovered. Unfortunately, it remains unknown what its purpose was or when it arrived on Earth. Notably, the craft appears to be made of a seemingly invulnerable material, leaving its place in the aliens' technological evolution also unknown.
- It's revealed that a shadow government by the name of Phoenix Mountain Project is in charge of managing alien artefacts. A unit by the name of Project 9 is in charge of trying to adapt alien technology for military purposes.
Characters
Referbacks
- It's revealed that the Phoenix Mountain Project was responsible for the warships stored in Hangar 15, as seen in "The Resurrection".
Trivia
The Show
- This episode marks the only absence of the Advocacy of the season.
Behind the Scenes
- The corridors of the facility appear to be a redress from the sets of "The Second Seal" and "My Soul to Keep".
Allusions and References
Memorable Moments
- The alien manages to communicate through the computer by simply wrapping its hand around the wires. It later uses this to sap all the information remotely from the Blackwood Project's computers on the aliens.
Goofs
- When Tex leaves Alexander's room, the shadow of a boom mic can be seen on the right side of the wall.
- When the alien drops in on the technician, the POV shot on the alien ends with an extreme close up that is actually a reused shot from "The Resurrection".
- Alexander's room becomes irradiated, but only through the presence of the alien fixed in the ventilation shaft facing the room. Either the room lit up for no reason, or the alien exposed the shafts to the radiation as well, leaving them unhealthy to move through, as the characters do later.
- Despite mention that walking into an irradiated room would be deadly, Harrison is exposed to Alexander's irradiated lab, but nothing is made of this.
- When Alexander is in the room with the alien pod, there is a dead body, pool of blood, and gun seen on the floor. When Ironhorse is in the room a few minutes later, all of this is gone.
Quotes
- Worker: I'm telling you, it's from outer space or somewhere. I dug up a freaking flying saucer!
- Col. Manning: Can I ask you something? Where's that thing from?
- Harrison: From someplace very far away.
- Harrison: Norton, I have a...
- Norton: Green floating weirdness?
- Harrison: Green floating weirdness. What's going on here?
- Norton: Is there anything... It's alive. It's taking information out of my machine!
- Harrison: It's the alien. It's got to be.
- Norton: He's accessing every file we've got!
- Harrison: Disconnect, Norton! Pull the plug! He's pulling all the information on the Blackwood Project!
- Harrison: After we evacuate, this facility will be like Chernobyl. Unfit for human habitation for ten centuries.
- Suzanne: Wait, wait. What about Alexander's research?
- Harrison: Frankly, Suzanne, I don't give a damn.
