History

Co-founder Rob Reiner named the company in honor of Castle Rock, the fictional Maine town that serves as the setting for several novels written by Stephen King, which happened after the success of the 1986 film Stand by Me. Reiner and co-founder Andrew Scheinman had already had a production company at the time of the launch. They were friends with Alan Horn, who was working with 20th Century Fox, who joined after being disappointed with working at the movie studio.
