Plot Overview

The Island

  • At the beach camp, the survivors discuss why a satellite phone was dropped onto their camp instead of the helicopter landing there. Sun suggests they use the phone to make a call and Jack hands the phone over to Daniel. Daniel is able to connect to a phone aboard the helicopter, but only receive audio from their end. Keamy is heard ordering Lapidus to put the helicopter down five kilometers from the Orchid before the transmission is cut. Juliet is unaware of what the Orchid is and points out that neither Sayid or Desmond were heard aboard the helicopter. Jack decides to head after the helicopter with Kate. Daniel searches through his notebook, telling Charlotte that Keamy is heading to the Orchid and that means their using the secondary protocol; they need to get off the island immediately.

Dawn breaks as Jack and Kate continue their trek to the helicopter. Kate notices that the site of Jack's surgery is bleeding, but Jack brushes it off. Miles and Sawyer stumble upon the two. Kate notices that Sawyer is holding Aaron, yet Claire is missing. Sawyer informs them that they lost Claire; she just walked off into the jungle in the middle of the night and they couldn't find her. He asks the two why they're out in the jungle and learns they're going after the helicopter from the freighter as Jack believes Sayid is aboard. He tells them that they better hope Sayid isn't on it as that means he's with the men who blew up half of the barracks; they tried to kill them just like Locke said they would. Jack decides to continue onward to the helicopter; Sawyer gives Aaron to Kate and accompanies Jack.

The two eventually come across the helicopter and find Lapidus handcuffed inside the helicopter's cabin. Lapidus informs the two that Sayid and Desmond were left on the freighter, Keamy and his mercenaries are at the Orchid to capture Linus and that he'll be able to fly them out. Realizing that Keamy's men will kill anyone with Ben, Sawyer tells Jack that Hurley is with Ben. The two leave Lapidus at the helicopter and head to the Orchid.

  • Sayid returns to the beach camp from the freighter on its Zodiak. He tells the survivors he must start ferrying them to the freighter before the helicopter returns as the men on the helicopter have every intention of kill them. Juliet tells Sayid that Jack and Kate left to go after the helicopter. Sayid decides to go after Jack and Kate, and Daniel offers to start ferrying people to the freighter as he knows about the bearing needed to safely travel to and from the island. Before Sayid leaves, Kate returns with Aaron and Miles. Kate reminds Sayid that he will need her skills to track Jack and Sawyer. She gives Aaron to Sun and leaves with Sayid. Sun, Aaron and Jin are among those who leave on the first trip to the freighter.

Kate attempts to track Jack and Sawyer, but eventually realizes the tracks she's following do not belong to them, are fresh and double back behind them. The two draw their weapons and Sayid orders the person to show themselves. Richard Alpert shows himself and tells the two to relax and drop their weapons. Sayid orders Alpert to stop, but a large group of heavily-armed Others appear around the two. Alpert takes Sayid and Kate's guns.

  • Faraday and the group arrive on the freighter, off-load the survivors and Faraday returns to the island. On deck, Michael informs Desmond that the engine is fixed at that Hendricks should try getting the ship moving. Desmond gets Hendricks to fire up the engines and to head to the island on bearing 305, but something is broadcasting aboard the freighter which is interfering with their depth scanner; he can't take the freighter any further than five miles off the coast or will risk hitting the island's reef.

On deck, Michael tells Sun and Jin that he and Walt took Ben's boat and followed his bearing for several days until they came to an island. He sold the boat and they hopped a cargo ferry back to the United States. Sun asks if he's working for Ben now, but Michael adamantly tells her that he doesn't work for him. Their conversation is interrupted by a frantic Desmond who calls for Michael. The group follows Desmond below deck and discover a massive pile of C-4 explosive wired to detonate.

  • In the jungle, Ben, Locke and Hurley continue their trek to the Orchid. Hurley asks why Ben didn't just move the island before the men on the freighter arrived, but Ben tells him that it's dangerous and unpredictable; a measure of last resort. Ben stops at a hidden cache and uses a mirror to signal to an Other on a ridge. Upon receiving a reply signal, Ben says they can go but refuses to reveal what their conversation was.

Continuing on, Hurley continues his questioning of Ben. If the Orchid is able to move the island, then wouldn't it move the mercenaries too? Ben agrees that it would happen and he's working on a solution to that problem. The trio finally arrive at the Orchid, but Keamy and his mercenaries are already there as Charles Widmore knows about the Orchid and about what they need inside. Ben tells Locke how to access a hidden elevator to get into the actual Orchid station, and tells Locke that he'll handle the mercenaries. He approaches the mercenaries at the Orchid and surrenders himself. Keamy points his side arm at Ben's temple, but then strikes him in the head with it.

The Flashforward

  • Flashforward: Various

Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, Sun and Aaron are aboard a United States Coast Guard aircraft on approach to a military base outside of Honolulu, Hawaii. An Oceanic representative on board, Karen Decker, informs the group they're about to land on a military base outside of Honolulu and their families are already there to greet them. The press want to speak with them, but Oceanic isn't requiring them to go through with it. Speaking on behalf of the group, Jack tells Decker that they'll speak with the press. Decker informs the group that the press are referring to them as the "Oceanic Six" and heads back to the cockpit. Alone, Jack reminds the group that they all know the story and they should keep their mouths shut should they be asked any uncomfortable questions. The aircraft lands in Hawaii where Hugo's parents, Sun's parents and Jack's mother greet them.

At the Oceanic press conference, Decker briefs the press on how they believe Oceanic 815 when down in the Indian Ocean and the survivors were carried by ocean currents to Membata, an uninhabited island in the Lesser Sunda Islands. On day 103 on the island, a typhoon washed up the remnants of an Indonesian fishing boat, including basic supplies and a survival raft. On day 108, the remaining six survivors used the raft to travel to Sumba, an island in Indonesia, coming ashore near a local village. Once their identities were revealed, they were transported to Honolulu by the United States Coast Guard. Decker allows the reporters to begin asking questions. Jack tells the reporters that they were in the water for over a day before they washed ashore on Membata, and by that time only eight survivors were left. Another reporter points out that they all look well for having been on a deserted island for over 100 days. Hurley says he doesn't want his money from before the crash as it's bad luck. A Korean reporter asks Sun if her husband was one of those who died on the island, but Sun says her husband died in the crash. Kate says that giving birth to Aaron on the island was scary. A reporter asks Sayid if it's possible there are more survivors from the crash out there, but Sayid tells her it's absolutely not possible. After the press conference, Decker pulls Sayid aside and tells him a woman named Noor Abed-Jaseem is outside and that she says she knows him. Sayid finds Nadia outside and the two embrace.

Several months after the return of the Oceanic Six, a visibly pregnant Sun greets her father at his office. Her father is agitated due to some "complications" with the company that he says she wouldn't understand. He asks about her pregnant, but Sun tells him that he doesn't care about the baby as they both know he hated her husband. Mr. Paik is outraged, reminding Sun that he is her father and she will respect him. Sun tells her father that Oceanic paid a very substantial settlement to the survivors of the crash and she used it to buy a controlling interest in his company. Now he will respect her. He ruined Jin's life and was the reason they were aboard the plane. Two people are responsible for Jin's death and he is one of them. She is going to have her baby and then they'll discuss the future of their company.

Hurley pulls up outside his mansion after grabbing some fast food from Mr. Cluck's. However, he notices the front door is ajar and no one answers him. Venturing inside he finds a coconut on the floor and begins to hear whispering. He grabs a statue of Jesus Christ and opens the door behind which is the source of the whispering, but discovers it's an island-themed surprise party for his birthday. Kate with Aaron, Sayid and Nadia wish Hurley a happy birthday; Jack is running late for the party. Hurley's father, David, pulls him aside to show him his birthday present - the Camaro they were going to work on together when Hurley was a kid, but now it's completed. David tells Hurley that he fixed it after the crash as a memorial for him. He gives the keys to Hurley so they can go out for a drive together. But inside the car Hurley notices the odometer reads 48,151.6 miles and the trip meter below reads 234.2 miles. Those are the cursed numbers which Hurley used to win the lottery and Hurley freaks out, thinking his father intentionally did it. He rushes out of the car and runs away.

At his father's funeral, Jack is giving a eulogy. He tells the assembled people that he wrote a eulogy on the back of a cocktail napkin at Sydney International Airport, but forgot what he wrote. It's no big loss, however, since he knows Christian Shephard would have hated it as he couldn't stand eulogies. He believed the only good thing about a wake was the free booze. Jack decides that what he wants to say is not for his father, but for himself. He says goodbye and that he loved him. After the funeral service, Jack is approached by an Australian woman. The woman tells Jack that she was the reason Christian was in Australia when he died. He came to see his daughter, her daughter. She remarks that the strangest thing was her daughter was also on Oceanic 815; her name was Claire Littleton. As Carole Littleton leaves, she tells Kate that her son, Aaron, is beautiful.
