Plot Overview

After witnessing a murder on one world, the group slides into a near identical one to prevent the same murder. However, this leads them to get embroiled in a grand conspiracy.

Notes

Brave New Worlds

  • The only noticeable divergence is that women can and do grow facial hair. (Note: Despite being identical to the proceeding world, right down to people in the same places, the political environment seems to be different due to difference in police uniform and lack of surveillance)
  • After Julius and Ethel Rosenberg assassinated JFK in 1963, J. Edgar Hoover, who would become known as the Stepfather of the United States, was sworn in and declared martial law where it has been in place ever since. This came with the expunging of most of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. This also allowed Hoover to become president for life as he served for 22 years before his death. Because of his alternative lifestyle, police departments adopted skirts as part of their uniform. This world also seems to be moving a few minutes behind despite everything taking place at the exact same time.

Doubles

  • Gomez Calhoun
  • Hurley
  • Barmaid, Rummy, Hipster, Judge Nassau, Natalie Nassau, Driver, and others seen in the first world

Timer

  • Over 2 weeks
  • 36 hours

Happenings

Characters

  • It's revealed that Wade is 23.

Referbacks

  • Arturo reminds Wade that the last time they got involved, Quinn was shot (Luck of the Draw).

Trivia

The Show

  • Alf Humphreys also played Pete in "The Weaker Sex". Since he's not given a name, it's debatable if he's playing a double here, but it's more likely a coincidence in casting.
  • Garvin Cross played the Sick Man in "Fever". Again, this is debatably a double due the to lack of name.

Behind the Scenes

  • This was the first episode filmed for Season 2. As such, Arturo makes a passing reference to Quinn's gunshot wound, in case Tracy Tormé didn't get a chance to wrap up the season 1 finale properly (see Into the Mystic).

Memorable Moments

Goofs

  • Events on the second world are occurring at the exact same time (as evident by the clock in both) despite a few minutes lapsing between the group leaving the first and arriving in the next.
  • The establishing shot of the Doppler Computer Superstore is obviously reused footage from the pilot.
  • The shot we see of Natalie when Wade is with Quinn at the Top Hat is obviously a flipped shot of the same shot we saw of her when Wade came with Rembrandt.
  • The exterior shot of the Top Hat shown when Wade takes Quinn is the exact same shot used earlier when Wade took Rembrandt.
  • As they're pulling up in the car to see Judge Nassau being arrested, we hear Natalie talking to Quinn and Wade, but you can see that her mouth isn't moving until she starts with "The nightmare is...".

Quotes

  • Arturo: Mister Brown, I swear you aim at me deliberately and you manage to target my backside with the regularity of an atomic clock!
  • Rembrandt: Wow. Talk about your déjà vu.
Arturo: We've obviously landed in a world that's almost identical to the last one.
Quinn: Yeah, I've seen her before.
Rembrandt: No bearded women. That's a step in the right direction.
Arturo: Maybe they just have better razors.
  • Rembrandt: Damn. A whole nation of squares. This reminds me of a solo gig I played in Florida once. The average age was deceased.
