Sliders follows the adventures of a group of four people who travel to alternate dimensions by means of an interdimensional vortex. Quinn Mallory (Jerry O'Connell), a genius student of the pompous Professor Maximillian Arturo (John Rhys-Davies) opens the vortex in his basement whilst trying to create the world's first anti-gravity device and together with his friend Wade Wells (Sabrina Lloyd) they decide to enter the vortex, accidentally drawing in singer Rembrandt Brown (Cleavant Derricks) as he drives by the house.
As the group soon discover, each parallel Earth is different in some or many ways to their own. The first world they visit has undergone a natural disaster and they must wait until the timer reaches zero before they leave; however, a tornado forces their early departure, which corrupts the timer circuitry and leaves them lost, and the series follows the group's continued sliding to try and find their home—Earth Prime.
