Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the first Star Trek series not created by Gene Roddenberry, focused on the crew of the newly-claimed space station Deep Space Nine, left behind by the Cardassians after their withdrawal from the nearby planet of Bajor. It was also the first Star Trek series to have a heavy focus on long-term story arcs, though this didn't rise to the forefront until the latter half of the series' run.
