Plot Overview
Following the death of Kate, the remaining NCIS crew attempts to piece together the mystery of her murder. However, throughout the episode, the team has trauma-induced hallucinations of Kate. Meanwhile, the NCIS director announces that he's accepted a promotion to a deputy directorship at Homeland Security and is replaced with former NCIS Special Agent Jenny Shepard, a woman Gibbs has had romantic relations with in the past. Questions are raised as to whether or not Ari really killed Agent Caitlin Todd, and the Mossad sends Agent Ziva David, Ari's conrol officer, with the intention of stopping Gibbs from killing him.
Haswari takes Gerald (Ducky's former autopsy lab assistant, whom he shot in Season One) hostage against Ducky, claiming that he wants to show Dr. Mallard evidence that he didn't kill Agent Todd. Ducky exchanges himself for Gerald, and the last shot of the episode is Ducky walking down the street towards Haswari's car framed in a sniper's scope.
